 ”My work is first and foremost figurative studies. It’s what I like to paint, my biggest challenge and my greatest payoff. My nondescript surroundings help me create a mood or a story that I am trying to relay through my painting. Inspiration comes from architectural interiors as well as fashion and my work allows me to explore and explain this side of myself. Seeing how the work evolves, the subtle and the drastic differences, and looking forward to the future is what keeps me painting. I view a painting as a success when I take from it something new that follows me into my next work. It’s just about learning to become a better painter.” – Michael Carson –

Michael Carson was born in 1972 in Minneapolis, MN.  He graduated from the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Design in 1996.  Working as a graphic Artist, he painted his first painting three years after graduating from college.  He knew he had found his calling and in 2001, started painting full time.
Influenced by the paintings of Toulouise Loutrec, John Singer Sargent, Norman Rockwell, Malcolm Liepke, and Milt Kobayashi, Michael Carson is primarily a figurative Artist who likes to tell a story.  His figures usually find themselves in bars, nightclubs, cafes, and jazz clubs; even at home in intimate settings.
His volition is to emphasize relationships of color and light and allow the texture of his brush stroke to move the viewer’s eye through the art.  “I like the fact that the face can be such a subtle subject and one brush stroke can be the difference in the feel of the entire piece.  That gives me the ability to work in one subject matter and still find that I learn something new in every painting.  I love to incorporate my love of design, fashion and architecture into my work.  My nondescript surroundings help me to create a mood or a story that I am trying to relay through my painting.  Seeing how the work evolves, the subtle and drastic differences, and looking forward to the future is what keeps me painting.  I view a painting as a success when I take from it something new that follows me into my next work.  It’s just learning to become a better painter.”
Michael has had several solo shows in Minneapolis from 2003 – 2006 and has participated in several group shows.  Michael Carson is a bold new talent emerging on the art scene and Jones & Terwilliger Galleries is proud to introduce his work to the West coast art market.

Jeremy Lipking, who was born in1975, in Santa Monica, California, is the son of a professional illustrator. While he emphasizes that he did not begin his formal studies until his late teens, the young artist’s early exposure to art gave him a sense of taste, perhaps the most important component of an artistic education. Lipking found himself most inspired by historic painters who combined the figurative tradition of the nineteenth century European art academies with an emphasis on the naturalistic landscape. Lipking enrolled in the California Art Institute, where he dedicated himself to long hours of drawing and painting, and now teaches his skills in art workshops throughout the country. A versatile painter, Lipking’s artistic output includes landscapes and still lifes, however he feels especially compelled to paint the most classical of artistic subjects, the human figure. By painting his subjects in outdoor settings, Lipking’s paintings are reminiscent of the artists of the nineteenth century naturalist movement, and like those painters, Lipking prefers to work in a cool, limited palette to create his unique sense of mood. Lipking is a Signature Member of the California Art Club. Lipking’s painting Shady Grove received both the Gold Medal and the Museum Director’s Award in 2001 at the California Art Club’s 91st Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition. His painting Antique Chair received the Museum Purchase Award at the 92nd Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition. His work has been published in Art-Talk, The Artist’s Magazine, Art and Antiques, American Artist, U.S. Art, and Southwest Art magazines.

Sergey Ignatenko/Сергей Игнатенко (Russian)Was born in Gomel, Belarus in 1975. His career began in art school. As a child, he fiddled with paint and paintbrush and made figurative pictures with his mother’s and sister’s portraits. They were his models. In 1997 he successfully accomplished his studies in A. Hlebaw Minsk High School of Art. During his studying years he recommended himself as a respected artist and was also accepted to the Belarusian Artists Guild. He grew very fond of the impressionist artists and there Wonderful creations. He spent many years for perfecting his personal and individual style but never forgot the everlasting influence, which he fell in love with as a boy. His artwork has a nostalgia and romanticism of a Past time. The artworks are in collections in the USA, United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany, Denmark, Israel, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Spain, Netherlands, Lithuania, Norway, Canada, South Africa.

Adam Miller is known for his contemporary figure paintings.  Born in 1979 in Oregon. He began an apprenticeship to artist Allen Jones at thirteen years old. At Sixteen he was accepted to the Florence Academy Of Art in Florence Italy where he underwent an extensive training in classical painting techniques and studied the masterpieces of the Renaissance firsthand. For the next four years Miller traveled in Europe studying the greatest art of the past, especially the Mannerists in Florence and the Flemish Baroque painting in Antwerp. Miller approaches his work as a theatre director, taking control of light and space to bring the visions of his imagination to life. His work is filled with Symbols and mythology that create an atmosphere of mystery and sensuality. His work has been commissioned by Robert Pamplin Jr., the Chairman of the Board of the Portland Art Museum, Mike Tyson, and Eric Rhodes, publisher of Fine Art Connoiseur. Miller has exhibited in both the U.S and Europe.
